Monte Carlo (Micranthemum tweediei) is a carpeting plant native to Argentina. Its small creeping stems, covered with rounded light-green leaves, develop roots as they spread and can form a dense 3–5 cm carpet across the aquarium foreground.
It can survive under moderate lighting, but good light, stable CO₂ injection, nutrients and water circulation are needed for compact growth and even substrate coverage. With insufficient light or CO₂, the stems tend to grow upwards and the carpet becomes thinner.
Once established, regular trimming is required. If the carpet becomes too thick, the lower layers receive less light and circulation, may deteriorate and can cause entire sections to lift away from the substrate. Keep it trimmed low, remove loose cuttings and thin out excessively dense areas.
